Utah Summer Games, St. George Triathlon

Mike and I participated in a Triathlon on June 14Th. This was Mike's second Triathlon and my first attempt at a full one. The last one that I did I was on a relay team. I have been training for months every night going to the gym to swim, running and biking. I felt like I was totally prepared for this event. Swimming in a swimming pool with only 6 feet of water in much easier than swimming in a lake that is 30 feet deep. Not to mention the fish that are swimming with you. But I did it. I conquered my fear of swimming in a lake without being able to touch the bottom. Once I finished the swim I was off for my 12.4 mile bike ride. Mike and warned me of a hill that was really long and a gradual climb. In fact while we were boating in the same lake that we swam in just the day before he pointed out the "HILL" that I would be riding up. The only advise that he gave me is "Don't get off you bike no matter what". Well I took his advise and I hung in there making it all the way to the top without getting off. It is nice to get the hard part over with first. That makes the rest of the ride a lot easier. Then it was time for the fun. Funny story. I was just getting ready to leave the transition area when I hear a couple of volunteers yelling "WATER". I grabbed a cup and took a big drink the I decided that I would dump it on my head to cool me down. Which I did. Something told me to look down just as I did I noticed that I had just dumped pink Gatorade all over myself. Yep all down the front of me in front of all the spectators. If anything it makes for a great story. The other great thing about this even was that it was my birthday the same day. What a gratifying thing to do on your birthday. Mike and I had a great time. Mike finished in 1 hour 54 minutes and myself I did it in 2 hours. That was my goal to finish in 2 hour and I did it. Mike and I have signed up for another Tri in September. Time to start training again. Way to go Mike
